MI’s Dominant Win: Suryakumar Yadav’s Explosive 52 and Bumrah’s Five-Wicket Haul Lead the Charge

MI vs. RCB, Mumbai Indians’ Comfortable Seven-Wicket Win

In the MI vs. RCB match, Suryakumar Yadav, the world No. 1 T20 batsman, returned to his 360-degree hitting form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Thursday when he scored a 19-ball 52 in the Mumbai Indians‘ (MI) comfortable seven-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). MI raced home with 4.3 overs to spare while chasing a challenging target of 197. Bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah took a five-wicket haul (5/21). Talking about Bumrah’s contribution after the match at the post-match presentation, Surya said he doesn’t face Jasprit Bumrah. “It’s been almost 2–3 years since I batted against him (Bumrah) in the nets because he either breaks my bat or breaks my foot,” said

Suryakumar Yadav hasn’t faced Jasprit Bumrah in practice for 2-3 years because he either breaks his bat or breaks his foot. Suryakumar Yadav’s explosive knock of 52 off 19 balls, supported by Jasprit Bumrah’s five-wicket haul (5/21), led Mumbai. While Surya celebrated his return to form in this IPL with a win, Bumrah was adjudged the ‘Player of the Match’.

Bumrah’s five-wicket haul

Bumrah’s five-wicket haul was the first by any bowler against RCB and made him the joint leader in the list of highest wicket-takers in IPL 2024 so far. Bumrah and Rajasthan Royals legspinner Yuzvendra Chahal have 10 wickets each now. Mumbai were never in trouble during the run-chase, as openers Ishan Kishan (69 off 34 balls) and Rohit Sharma (38 off 24 balls) added 101 runs for the opening partnership in 8.4 overs. Surya’s quickfire knock put MI in cruise mode, and skipper Hardik Pandya’s 21 not-out-of-6 balls ensured that the hosts raced home.

RCB’s Runmakers and Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma’s Century Partnership

RCB had to thank captain Faf du Plessis (61 off 40 balls), Rajat Patidar (50 off 26 balls), and Dinesh Karthik (53 off 23 balls) for being able to post a challenging 196/8 on the board despite Bumrah’s back-breaking spell. Suryakumar Yadav was out for 0 in his first IPL 2024 game, another high-scoring game at the Wankhede against Delhi on Sunday. However, on Thursday, he was in the mood to send some into the stands after Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma tore into the RCB attack, adding 101 runs for the first wicket in just 8.5 overs. Suryakumar joined hands with his former MI captain Rohit after Ishan did the damage at the top with his 34-ball 69.

Harbhajan Singh Compared Suryakumar Yadav to AB de Villiers

Former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh likened Suryakumar Yadav to AB de Villiers and said that the MI batter is a better version of the South African legend in terms of making light work of opposition bowlers in the T20 format with his range of shots. Suryakumar stormed back into form with a 17-ball fifty, his fastest in the IPL, in their home game against RCB on Thursday at the Wankhede Stadium. Suryakumar Yadav’s return to form is crucial not just for MI but also for the senior national team, as the top-ranked batter will be crucial to India’s chances at the T20 World Cup, starting June 1 in the USA and the West Indies.

World Cup-winning former off-spinner Harbhajan Singh said he is relieved that he doesn’t have to bowl to Suryakumar Yadav, marvelling at the MI batter’s effortless shot-making ability. Suryakumar’s 19-ball 52 was one of the highlights of MI’s decimation of RCB at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.
